SPRING 'Paint Splosh' mini competition.....!

Postby Freedroid » Sun Apr 22, 2007 9:39 pm

(Just to re-iterate a post just made to another thread regarding making the month of May a month of painting your backlog of lead....)

Image
OK - I will 'sweeten' the pot with a little incentive! Let's turn this into a mini-competition

The 'best' entry submitted on this forum for the "AFG Spring Paint 'Splosh'" will receive a FREE Gort model (and crew) PLUS a bag of nice AFG gubbins - the total value of which will be around US$50.00 (free shipping too!)

By 'best' I mean the person who has been deemed to have spent the most hours at the paint bench in a heroic effort to clear their unpainted lead mountain.(As judged by myself & Heidi).

All minis submitted must be AFG products, or partial conversions. Judges decision is final.

Competition closes end of Sunday June 3rd 2007 at midnight.

(AFG reserves the right to change competition conditions without prior notice however they see fit).

First off - you need to SHOW US THE MINIS YOU INTEND TO WORK ON BEFORE YOU WORK ON THEM. That way we know you're not submitting work you did ages ago! PLease submit piccies to this forum of bare / partially pained minis.

Post your images on this forum - please make them as clear as you possibly can as we need to assess accurately the time and effort you have put into the work!

OK - Obviously I cannot enter an AFG competition - but in solidarity with the competition entrants here's my own 'spring paint splosh' list.....

1) Hydrissian 'Dartwing' attack bike
2) Mephalian Gort beast and 3 crew (inc. other peripheral minis).

Keep an eye out for this comp. on TMP too.

Get workin' people! :D

Wow, you really upped the ante.

All right, time to batten down the hatches...

edit: Oh, I guess this is mucho importante...are we referring to JUST Alpha Forge minis here, or is it from a our total backlog? 'Cause if we're going for the gusto and clearing out the backlog, I've got some other stuff I need to work on too...

This sounds very fun. I've got lots of good stuff to work on too...

I've got a few minis that I am painting for Rod, but that seems a conflict of interest to me, so I will NOT count or use those, I will only use my own Alpha Forge stuff.....I'll take some pics tonight of what I 'need' to get done....

(but don't worry Rod...your stuff comes first!!)

This is your decision SV - :) If you can send over those few zombies that will more than suffice.
:)

I just realised - please be careful with the RSI SV!

GAHK! Awww MAN! I just finished everything in my last order. I've got nothing to PAINT! Perhaps I'll strip the paint off and start over again, eh? LOL! Maybe Rod can supply me with a mountain of lead to paint, eh?

Yeah, thanks SV, I missed that very obvious (in bold) stipulation. It kinda puts me in a pickle, just 'cause I don't have a ton of AFG minis on hand, but no biggie, they need to be painted, and by gum, that's the plan.

I'll post my list this evening.

Ok...you can see the date in green...so I guess that proves it.

In this mountain...

I have 1 Asteroid Miner Chief.
10 Mephalians
1 Seloi Clan Hydrissian (with drones)
1 Hydrissian Gorgon Recon Fighter
1 Hydrissian Gorgon Recon Figher (LIMITED EDITION RESIN!!!)
1 Half assembled Demobot
1 pack of 8 zombies
1 pack of 4 rural survivors
2 Asteroid MIner Cyclops'
8 Asteroid Miners
1 Hydrissian Salvager
3 Human Crew members (from my inital WIP...still haven't finished em)
1 Prefect and 3 drones.

I have no thoughts of actually finishing this pile...but if I could put a nice dent in it....ah that would be great!!

The gauntlet is dropped!

As the DEFENDING SALVAGE RUN CHAMPEEN.....I shall not fail!! (ok, so I talks a little smack...)

Well - the thing is that you don't need a lead mountain necessarily for this comp.

We're judging it on the time taken primarily (along with a little aesthetic appeal) - not the number of minis.

So - you could spend alot of time painting just two or three minis up really, really well ,and giving them a great bit of basing.

OR - you can tackle your lead mountain and paint like a fiend and produce alot of paint work on alot of minis at a lower standard.

HK - those hydrissian Dart wing bikes will be available tomorrow. I'll make sure you get some hot off the casting machine.. :)

All right, I'm in, here's my crew. Officially the list breaks down as follows:

    x6 Light Armored Spacers
    x1 Tracked Wardroid
    x1 Hydrissian
    x1 HADES Battle Armor
    x1 Company Boss
x1 Salvage Dog truck (with salvage markers)

Not pictured, but will be as soon as Rod ships them out, heh:

    x1 HADES Battle Armor
    x1 Hydrissian
    x1 Biped Wardroid
    x2 Light Armored Spacers
    x1 Arachnid Mini-Gun Platform

Looking forward to it! Rock on...

So, including the Dartwings, I've got about 11 0r 12 misc humans and a Scavenger Drone.

@cygnus: Wow, you've got quite the mountain, there.

@SV Hey, you've got a mountain, too.

EDIT: i just fixed sme typos, is all...

I think I am going to try for a mixture of both....spend lots of time painting like a fiend....But, I'm going to paint ALL at my highest level...(which really isn't all that high, but it'll be the best I can do)

Yeah, I'm obviously going very infantry heavy for my human salvage crew, so I'm gonna have my hands full. I'm also shooting for a mixture of solid quality, and getting them all done to boot. I've got to think up a cohesive them and color scheme for them in the next day or two as well, something to really make them seem like a company. And I need to pick up a new can of flat black, 'cause I'm all out of primer.

My semester ends this Friday, so I won't be able to start until Saturday the 28th at the earliest. Hopefully my new stuff will be here by then as well, depending on the pokey, err, post office!

So who else besides HK, SV, and myself are in? CCotD, is your mobile paintcart gonna see some May Splosh action?

@HK: Let's make it official, post some pics! ;)
